Now that I had familiarised myself with the AppFurnace software, I began to think of ideas for my mobile app. The brief gave me three suggestions: a UWE Freshers app, a basic game or a completely original idea. My initial thought was to create a UWE Freshers app. To continue the reoccurring theme, I began with a pen and paper to get my ideas down. I began by writing a brief paragraph explaining the app.

I then constructed a brief initial navigation layout which also displayed potential content.

Before beginning to create and design my app, I drew some basic wire frames to give myself some guidance rather than going into it on a blank slate. With this in place, I moved back to keyboard and mouse to start designing my
application. I used Photoshop to create the majority of the UWE Freshers app's elements because
although the default button and elements in AppFurnace were of a decent quality, there was still
some limitations to their custom properties (e.g. fonts). During the design stage, I came to the
decision to alter one of my original designs created during the sketching stage. I felt like this design
seemed outdated and did not have a sharp, eyecatching element to it. I scrapped it and took a
step back to think. I decided to go for a theme inspired by Jony Ive's iOS7 design, this meant
keeping it quite minimal yet sleek. I believe it also fits in with the before mentioned iOS7 design
and most up to date Android devices to keep, this give the end user a consistent feel as they
navigate from their OS' main UI to this app.

I took the decision to change the functions of my app, as I believed it was going off the point as I looked back to my initial brief I set myself. I took the bar/pubs section out, as I believed it was veering off the "nightlife" and "club" aspect. I also replaced the UWE Site Map with "Useful Info", which included things such as numbers for taxis and information about bus services. I felt this was necessary as the app was a guide to nightlife and not directly about the university itself.

I encounted two problems while working on this projects, one was that AppFurnace for some unknown reason had an error when attempting to load a Twitter, unfortunately time did not allow me to experiment or fix this. I had the same issue with implementing Spotify playlists additionally, I wanted Spotify specifically as this has a feature called collaborative playlists - this allows anyone to add tracks. Instead I opted to use YouTube playlists, but this meant it had to be opened in a web browser tab.
